Japanese art

Under this category we deal with all those artistic manifestations that during the last ten millennia have hit the archipelago of Japan, starting from the characteristic neolithic finds jomon (c.10 .000 BC-300 BC) through the impressive works of the Nara and Heian (710-1192), Kamakura (1192-1333), Muromachi (1338-1573), Momoyama (1573-1603), Edo (1603-1868) and ending with the elaborate artifacts of the Meiji (1868-1912) and Taisho (1912-1926), both beloved by Western society of the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. Through the veritable kaleidoscope of styles, forms and materials that constitute the distinctive feature of Japanese art, we try to treat every single piece with the same care and attention, from the great sculptures linked to the Buddhist and Shinto traditions to the prestigious weapons, lacquers, bronzes, refined furniture, elegant furnishings and all that vast production of small and precious artifacts, netzuke, inro, ojime, okimono, porcelain and cloisonné enamels, which have contributed to spreading the fame of formal perfection of Japanese products in the world.
